April 4, 2008

It's been about a month since my last update. Since then, I've gotten sick. Had two infections, a throat infection (similar to strep) combined with a general cough/cold virus. Was bad enough that I had to go to the doctor's and take antibiotics. Not fun. I did lose a substantial amount of weight.. but this wasn't what I had in mind.

Went on a cruise to the Bahamas last week of March.. very relaxing.. started out eating salads before every meal, but that soon faded. Ate a lot of rich food, and drank a lot of soda. Still, after all that, gained only 4 pounds for the week. No, not great, but much better than some past vacation results of 10 pounds in a week! (Throat infection came back during the cruise.. but went away again once we returned).

Not doing so well this week, either. Have eaten out at restaurants 3 nights in a row, including last night at Bertucci's.

Food has been a struggle lately.. but I'm coming to terms with it. Knowing that God wants us (wife and myself) on a high raw diet is a major key on the road to recovery. We're both weak in the area of food, so we know we must pray daily for strength. Deep down, I don't want to eat crap.. I want to eat raw and feel good.. it's just a vicious cycle when I keep reaching for temporary gratification in the form of SAD.

So today we're eating our restaurant leftovers.. usually we "start over again" on Monday.. but this time we're starting fresh on Saturday. We realize we need to avoid restaurants, at least for a while.. that's our downfall.. eating healthy at home is fairly easy, but we both lack the strength to make healthy choices while out of the house.

I think I'm going to take some time to make some raw recipes tomorrow.. I've been eating a lot of clementines, apples, and olives, but I need something more substantial. This week, for instance, I haven't been eating enough.. then by dinner I'm famished and devouring everything in sight.. and food becomes an issue of lust and gluttony.

We also decided to weigh ourselves only once per week, on Monday mornings. This week, my new "starting" weight was 234.5 lbs.
