I bought Joyce Chen's Spiral Slicer today. I'm ready to start making raw ravioli again and need the spiral slicer to slice the parsnips into perfect ravioli shapes. I also looked at the ...looked at Raw Revolution bars but they were a bit pricier than I anticipated, so I passed.

Went to Farm Fresh tonight after dinner. Spent too much money but got some things that none of our other local grocery stores offer.

Farm Fresh grocery list: $57.82
- 2 canisters of creamer (for Steph's coffee)
- Blue Diamond Smokehouse Nut Thins (vegan, gluten-free)
- Yogi Lemon Ginger tea
- Imagine vegan potato leek soup
- McDougall vegan, gluten-free tortilla soup (for Steph)
- Taste Bite punjab eggplant
- bananas
- cherry vanilla granola (for Steph)
- organic arugula
- organic spring mix
- roasted/unsalted peanuts in the shell
- 3 Amy's bean burritos (for Steph)
- low-sodium Ezekial bread (sesame and cinnamon raisin were more expensive and they were out of original)
- Annie's alfredo pasta (for Steph)
- organic macaroni and cheese (for Steph)

Food Intake:
- I can't find my list, but I know I had a gluten-free, vegan veggie and soy cheese pizza from zpizza tonight for dinner. The rest of the day I ate healthy.

Steph got laid off this afternoon. She's the breadwinner of our family, so it's quite devastating. We are unsure what we are going to do, if we're going to have to move to somewhere she (and I) can get a good job or what. She's already applied for over 50 jobs since this afternoon when she received the bad news, so she's on the right track. But with this economy, we're just not sure what's going to happen. Unemployment will help, but it's definitely going to mean we take a huge financial hit. It's not likely at all that I'll be keeping up the exact way I have been eating, as it's just too darned expensive. I can also guarantee this weekend I'm going to eat crap, as I am beyond pissed off at so many things....the company who laid her off, the scale for not reciprocating my hard work the last month, our astronomical bill and debt situation, the enconomy for not providing us the opportunities our experienced selves deserve, and so much more. I know I could have taken the high road and not chosen to eat crap, but it's what I know. Food has always comforted me in times of sorrow and stress. This time is no different. Life sucks! I'm a survivor, but I'm also a temporary saboteur. I'll be back on top again soon enough.

Food Intake:
- 8 oz orange juice
- hot green tea with unsweetened vanilla almond milk and agave nectar (drank half of the to-go mug)
- 1/4 c. Blue Diamond smokehouse nut thins
- 1/2 c. Ener-G gluten-free pretzels

- unsweetened iced tea
- Schlotzsky's: vegetarian wrap on a wheat tortilla (lettuce, tomato, little bit of onion, cucumber, black olives, mustard), baked plain Lays chips, 2 pickle spears, unsweetened iced tea
- all down hill from here....Taco Bell - bunch of vegetarian, but not vegan crap involving chips, tortillas, cheese, hot sauce, lettuce, tomato, sour cream, root beer to drink; ice cream and cookies for dessert...it's a baaaaaad night here on the Reeves-Davis homefront

Weekend eating of crap. Back to healthy eating tomorrow morning.

February 10, 2010

Hi. I'm Michelle and am one of those people who goes nutso eating healthy for oh, I don't know, a month and a few days....then falls off the "wagon" once and continues down the path to crap cooked hell. Dang, what in the world? The cycle is absolutely insane, and yet sooooo normal and typical and comfortable, and so not surprising to me. No matter what strength and conviction I have, I can just as easily slip back into old behaviors and become that person again. There's no excuse. The reason for this particular slip up is the stress of Steph losing her job Friday and the uncertainty our future holds. It all went down hill for us both Friday night, and we've pretty much stayed down here since then. Sorry internet. Hope to see ya on the other side once again, hopefully very soon...

February 11, 2010

I started my period. And I've also decided that my desire to eat a high-ish raw, vegan diet does not solely have to do with my desire to lose a massive amount of weight. After eating crappy this week, my head has started to hurt, I've started to "need" coffee again to stay awake at work, I feel bloated, cranky, oily (is that really possible to feel oily as a result of eating greasy food. I feel!!!! oily, ew). Oh and I keep wanting crap food! I told Steph tonight that I've got to go back to healthy eating....on Monday. Come on, it's Valentine's weekend. I'll get back to it Monday...and we are also committing to exercise, cause if I do want to lose weight, eating healthy is simply not enough. See ya in a few days...

February 14, 2010

Starting back on my healthy journey tomorrow. Both Steph and I are hitting the ground running with another 3-day juice fast. We went to Trader Joe's tonight and picked up several bottles of pure, unpasteurized, unfiltered gala apple juice as well as a few cartons of pure, not from concentrate orange juice. I have to admit the best orange AND apple juices I've ever had are Trader Joe's own brand. After Trader Joe's, we stopped by The Fresh Market and picked up a few cartons of organic vegetable broth to add some non-sweet juice to our fast. Then before we got home, we stopped by Food Lion and got a bottle of Acai Pomegranite juice. If I'd had energy tonight, we would have stopped by Wal-Mart to pick up a bottle of no-sugar-added cranberry juice. No one else had it in stock. It's funny how we have to go to so many different places to get the exact juices we want. There isn't one single store that has it all. Wal-Mart's not it. Trader Joe's isn't it. The local grocery store isn't it. I guess it's good in some ways --- keeps me from giving Wal-Mart too much of my money; and not so good in others --- shows just how difficult and time-consuming it can be to try to eat a healthy AND delicious diet. Stay tuned for Day 1 post.

Let's see. Made it until 4:30 pm on Monday with the juice fast. Still haven't exercised. Can I just offer a really great website full of recipes, links, books, and kitchen ideas? Cause I definitely have that. So enjoy that for a bit, ok?

PS I have lost 4 of the *NINE* pounds I had gained back. I guess that's some kinda progress.
