Why Celtic Sea Salt? |
|
Celtic Sea Salt is different than Natural Sea Salt is different than Iodized Table Salt. These differences are outlined below. Celtic is the truest, purest, most healthy form of salt. Information below provided by The Grain and Salt Society. |
|
Celtic Sea Salt Harvested from clay-lined salt beds, located just off the Northern coastline of France by trained professional salt farmers. Sun and wind dry the salt, wooden utensil are used to gather the salt. Nothing is taken out. however Celtic Sea Salt is carefully sifted through to remove natural debris such as small stones or sand. More than 80 vital minerals are left intact! Nothing is added...all the health of the ocean is carefully maintained by careful harvesting practices. |
"Natural" Sea Salt Methods for producing natural sea salts vary widely. At best, these salts are machine-harvested, washed, boiled and skimmed, then oven-dried. If the salt is crystallized but white, it has been dried in concrete-lined beds. These salts are handles by metal utensils. Some sea salts come from the same refineries as iodized, commercial salt. Minerals are removed in the process of heat (used to quickly dry the salt) and washing (helps to make the salt "white"). The vibrancy of the ocean is no longer present even in these salts which are less refined than iodized table salt. If the salt flows freely, anti-caking agents have been added. These agents prevent the salt from absorbing water which negatively influences the human body's ability to absorb the salt. |
Iodized Table Salt Iodized table salt is produced from vacuum evaporation of brine. Minerals are removed by using chemicals such as sulfuric acid, chlorine and hydrochloric acid. The salt is then heated to high temperatures of 400 degrees to dry it completely. All minerals are removed, and the molecular structure of the salt is changed by high temperatures. Anti-caking agents such as ferrocynide, yellow prussiate of soda, tri-calcium, phosphate. |
